Buttress is celebrating after receiving two nominations at this year’s North West Business Insider Residential Property Awards.

After taking home the prize last year, the practice has been shortlisted again for Residential Architect of the Year. The award recognises architects’ practices operating in the residential property sector that have made significant contributions to developments in terms of design, deliverability and control of costs.

Carpino Place, our residential development in Salford, is also up for an award, having been shortlisted for Small Development of the Year. The 22-home three and four bedroom scheme is the third residential project to be delivered by The English Cities Fund in the Chapel Street area; which is currently undergoing significant regeneration.

Planned as a complementary addition to the ongoing redevelopment of the surrounding area, each block has been designed to sit harmoniously alongside existing buildings and provide a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional, Victorian townhouse found across Salford.

The layout of the blocks has been set to enclose a private courtyard and run parallel to the adjacent streets, reinforcing the existing streetscape and strengthening the urban setting of Oldfield Road. The restoration of the historic cobbled Wroe Street and South William Street has also been incorporated into the development to retain the historic street pattern and treatment.

The finished result is a development that complements and sits harmoniously with its context, but that can be read as a new, distinct, and contemporary addition to the neighbourhood.

The North West Insider Residential Property Awards were launched in 2016 to recognise and reward the excellence of the North West residential property sector. Celebrating their fourth year, the 2019 awards dinner is set to be the biggest yet and will take place on 24 January at EventCity in Manchester.
