The shortlisting is exciting as it follows on from another Buttress scheme in Salford, Timekeepers Square, that went on to win the award in 2019.
RSAP stands for Rough Sleepers Accommodation Programme funding. Designed for Salford City Council, the scheme is creating 24 modular move-on homes and 19 two-three bedroom affordable houses which will prepare occupants for full and independent living – the design embraces the realities and emotions that a homeless person may feel entering and living in their home. The scheme is across three sites in Salford – Eccles New Road, Enfield Street and Tootal Grove. The houses will act as a pathway to settled accommodation for Salford’s homeless population providing a genuine home that will help to prepare them for full, independent living.
The Housing Design Awards, launched in 1948, is the only Awards promoted by all 5 major professional institutions – RICS, RIBA, RTPI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. The awards are judged by a broad mix representing the professions, government departments and agencies, leading residential clients and designers, all individuals dedicated to improving housing design quality. It is recognised as a leading national award for housing design.
