Social Value

Buttress implements volunteer day policy for all staff

We have introduced a new employee volunteer day policy, offering 40 days to staff.

As part of our social value offer at Buttress, we’ve introduced employee volunteering days – giving our team the opportunity to contribute their time and skills to causes they are passionate about.

We’ve always supported taking time to give back, but as our studio grows and our social value strategy is formed, we thought it was time to formalise this support and ensure that our employees are getting the most out of it.

We are now offering 40 paid volunteering days per year with the hope of extending this offer next year.

Why?

Volunteering brings mutual benefit – for the community, for our team and the practice as a business. Staff can use their time to support charities, community initiatives and projects that align with both their interests and our joint goal of architecture for an equitable tomorrow.

Giving back

Each volunteering day is designed to be flexible and can be organised either through the company or self-directed. Members of our studios can choose how and where they give their time – whether that’s leading school workshops, mentoring future architects or supporting local charities.

Our approach is simple – we think people are the most impactful when they feel connected to the cause they are supporting, so they should be able to give back in a way that reflects who they are.

While the volunteer day offer is still currently in the early stages, we hope it will grow into an ongoing part of how we work. We have already approved two volunteer days and are looking forward to seeing the positive impact generated for local communities.
