Plans have been lodged to regenerate East Manchester’s Grey Mare Lane estate.

Designed for social landlord, One Manchester, the plans will see the demolition of 124 maisonettes, flats and older houses, which are suffering from persistent water ingress and significant heat loss, and the replacement of them with 124 social rent low carbon homes. 166 new homes will be added to the estate and a further 150 homes are in line to be retrofitted, improving their energy efficiency.

Alongside this, the existing Grange community centre will be replaced with a new hub - to be run by existing community operator 4CT - on Grey Mare Lane.

The homes will mostly comprise two- and three-bed houses that will be offered for affordable rent, shared ownership and ‘rent to buy’.

Ben Tabiner, Associate at Buttress, said: “Throughout the design development process we have closely engaged with residents to embed their thoughts and aspirations for the estate into the proposals.

“The plans that we have put forward will offer high-quality, sustainable housing alongside a range of improvements that will support the needs of the community as a whole.”

Judy Noah, Director of Development at One Manchester, said: “I am delighted that following the delays of the last 18 months due to COVID, we are now moving forward with our plans to transform the Grey Mare Lane neighbourhood.

“We’ve spent the summer engaging with residents over our proposals and in the new year we plan to start working up the detail.

“One Manchester are excited to be bringing forward this regeneration scheme with the support of, and in partnership, with the City Council and the local community.”
