New affordable housing scheme proposed in Macclesfield town centre

The development will bring much needed affordable housing to the area.

Plans have been submitted for a residential development on the Former Hangar 7 building, George Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The project, designed for client Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, comprises twelve new homes including six townhouses and six walk-up apartments situated alongside the Bollin River, providing much-needed affordable housing to the area.

Taking inspiration from Macclesfield's rich historical context, we have created a sustainable and contemporary design that seamlessly blends the town's heritage with modern living. These homes are set to invigorate the local community and foster interaction among residents through carefully designed shared amenity spaces.

Matthew Burl, Associate Director said: “If the plans are approved the homes will offer a fresh perspective on housing, promoting connectivity and community engagement."

“The walk-up apartments will offer contemporary apartment-style living but with the benefit of having your own front door to the street.”

Emma Richman, Director of Operations at Peaks & Plains Housing Trust states: “This is a high-quality development reflecting the Trusts continued commitment to the investment in Macclesfield’s town centre and working towards our strategic aim of creating great places to live.”

This innovative project aligns with Buttress’ and Peak & Plains Housing Trust’s commitment to creating affordable, sustainable, and inclusive spaces.

The plans for the George Street housing scheme are currently under review by Macclesfield Borough Council. If approved, these homes will not only enrich the local housing landscape but also set a new standard for affordable and community-focused living in Macclesfield.
