We're hiring
Buttress is proud to be an employee-owned architectural practice where people and place matter. We are a collaborative practice of 80+ individuals based in Manchester and Leeds united by a shared vision and passion for shaping extraordinary places. We are currently looking for Part I & Part II Architectural Assistants to join our Manchester studio.
Part I Architectural Assistant
As a Part I Architectural Assistant, you’ll get involved in a wide range of projects and gain hands-on experience across design, presentation and project delivery. You’ll be part of multidisciplinary teams working from early concept stages through to technical design and on-site delivery.
Working closely with colleagues and consultants, you’ll help develop design proposals, with a particular focus on producing drawings, presentation material, visual studies and graphic outputs that communicate ideas clearly and creatively. You’ll also support coordination across RIBA work stages and assist with technical information, while building your understanding of planning, building regulations and project workflows.
This role is ideal for someone with strong visual communication skills, a keen eye for detail and a positive, curious approach to learning.
Part II Architectural Assistant
As a Part II Architectural Assistant, you’ll take on greater responsibility across both design and project delivery, working as part of multidisciplinary teams from initial concept through to technical design, tender and delivery on site.
Working closely with colleagues, clients and consultants, you’ll help develop design proposals, technical packages and project documentation. You’ll support, and in some cases lead, the coordination of design information across RIBA work stages, while gaining further experience in planning, regulatory processes and project delivery.
Across both roles, we use a range of professional software. Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD would be beneficial for Part I applicants, while strong skills in these platforms would be ideal for Part II applicants. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite tools, in particular Photoshop and InDesign, is also valued, alongside visualisation tools such as Enscape and Lumion.
This role would suit someone who communicates confidently, enjoys working collaboratively and is ready to take more ownership while continuing to develop their technical and professional skills.
Our culture
We understand that loving where you work is incredibly important. We work hard to create a company culture that is supportive, inclusive and fun. We celebrate our differences and ensure that everyone in the studio has a voice and is respected, valued and listened to. We invest in our people and offer a range of benefits to all staff, including enrolment onto our healthcare plan and pension scheme, and flexible working hours.
We believe in more than just financial success; we embrace a 'triple bottom line' approach that values profit, people, and the planet as equal measures of our achievements. We strive to make a positive impact in all that we do.
People are the driving force behind our business. We recognise that their talent, creativity, and dedication are our greatest assets. That's why we are committed to their growth and development, investing in coaching, training, and endless opportunities to enrich their professional and personal lives.
