Timekeepers Square has been named as a Regional Finalist at this year's Civic Trust Awards.
Developed by the English Cities fund (ECf) – a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and the Homes & Communities Agency – in conjunction with Salford City Council, Timekeepers Square is the second of the ECf’s residential developments in the Chapel Street area.
The development comprises six terraces of 36 two, three and four bed townhouses adjacent to the Grade II* listed neo-classiscal St Phillips church and the Georgian square which it fronts. All houses have dedicated private parking, and the three and four bed houses have private roof terraces in addition to rear gardens.
The townhouses have been designed as a contemporary re-interpretation of the area’s existing Georgian houses, responding to them in height and massing with a strong vertical emphasis and rhythm applied to the fenestration and door patterns.
Each of the terraces have been set out to re-establish the historic urban grain of the area, focusing on the architectural and urban focal point of St Phillips Church, whilst also serving to define a new communal courtyard at the heart of the development.
Established in 1959, the Civic Trust Awards is the longest standing built environment awards scheme in Europe. The aim of the Civic Trust Awards is to encourage the very best in architecture and environmental design, to improve the built environment for us all through design, sustainability, inclusiveness and accessibility, but also to reward projects that offer a positive cultural, social, economic or environmental benefit to their local communities.
All Regional Finalists will now be considered by the National Panel for a National, International Award or Commendation, and successful schemes will be notified in mid-December.
