Associate Director, Chithra Marsh, will be joining a panel of industry experts discussing skills, diversity, and the future of the built environment during this year’s Labour Party Conference.
The panel, titled, “Building the next generation: Skills, diversity and the built environment sector”, is being hosted by the RIBA jointly with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
It is estimated that the construction industry will need to find almost 230,000 new recruits between 2016-2020 to avoid the rapidly worsening skills shortage. The construction sector must draw on a talent pool of people from all backgrounds so that the sector can continue to thrive and build the next generation of skilled workers.
The discussion will ask, why are skills and diversity so important to the built environment sector, and will provide members with the opportunity to engage in discussion on the future of the sector, whilst interacting with Members of Parliament and industry professionals.
Joining Chithra on the panel will be:

• Dr Roberta Blackman Woods MP, Shadow Minister for Planning
• Claire Handby, Director at Deloitte Real Estate (CIOB)
Following the panel discussion, attendees will have the opportunity for any questions to be answered in a Q&A session. The session will then be followed by a drinks reception which will provide the opportunity to meet and network with professionals from across the built environment.
