Associate Director has been invited to be part of the Selection Committee for the British Council Commission for the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023.

The Venice Biennale has been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world since the Art Biennale was inaugurated in 1895. A dedicated Architecture Biennale was established in 1980 and has gradually established its own identity running in alternate years to the Art Biennale.

Since 1937, the British Council has managed the British Pavilion and has taken responsibility for the British representation at the Venice Biennale. While the exact model differs for each biennale, the curatorial team is appointed on the advice of a selection committee made up of prominent figures from the world of art, architecture, engineering, and design.

Commenting on her appointment, Chithra Marsh, said: “It is an honour to have been invited to join the selection committee for Venice Architecture Biennale 2023 and I look forward to working with my fellow committee members in celebrating the best that Britain’s diverse creative community has to offer.”

The Open Call for the 18th International Architecture Exhibition asks for “bold and imaginative proposals, which encourage participation, stimulate discussion and offer a new experience of and perspective on contemporary British architecture and how it can respond to global challenges.” Proposals are welcomed from diverse creative teams and should be submitted by 26 November.
