Timekeepers Square, has won a prestigious Civic Trust Award.

The scheme was one of 18 projects presented with an award at a ceremony held at Old Trafford on Friday (9th March) from a shortlist of 60 international finalists, with judges describing the project as "a unique new place, sensitive to the heritage of the area by using an architectural response that is restrained and considered."

Timekeepers Square has been a roaring success for client, the English Cites Fund, receiving more than 5,000 enquiries when it was brought to market and all sales secured off plan just seven months after launch.

Designed as a contemporary reinterpretation of the area’s existing Georgian houses, the development includes three blocks of 36 two, three and four-bedroom townhouses. Each of the terraces have been set out to re-establish the historic urban grain of the area, focusing on the architectural and urban focal point of the adjacent Grade II* listed St Phillips Church, while also serving to define a new communal courtyard at the heart of the development.

The scheme is the second residential development in the area from the English Cities Fund – a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and Homes England, and forms part of the wider Salford Central regeneration scheme, which is breathing new life into both the Chapel Street and New Bailey areas of the city.

Ian Beaumont, director at Buttress said: “With Timekeepers Square, we sought to provide a sensitive, contemporary response to the conservation area’s Georgian architecture. What results is distinct, modern neighbourhood that represents an important step in providing sustainable family housing in the heart of Salford.

“Winning this award is an incredible achievement and we are delighted that the real care and attention that has gone into the design of Timekeepers Square has been recognised by the Civic Trust judging panel.”

Phil Mayall, development director at the English Cities Fund, added: “To win this award is a great accolade for the entire team involved in the development of Timekeepers Square. The scheme has been a huge success to date and has made a significant contribution to the ongoing regeneration of Chapel Street.”
