The restoration of Wythenshawe Hall has been crowned North West winner of the RIBA's Journal's Best on Show competition, which invited readers to select their favourite building from this year's RIBA Awards shortlisted schemes.
More than 7000 votes were cast over 16 nations and regions (including a sub-divided London) and Wythenshawe Hall came out top in the North West.
The project saw the Grade II* listed building extensively restored after a fire devastated much of the hall in March 2016.
Throughout the three-year restoration programme, our approach was underpinned by a bespoke conservation philosophy, tailored to the building and its historic significance, while responding to the fingerprint left by the fire.
Wherever possible, surviving historic features have been retained and repaired with bespoke remedial solutions used to strengthen at-risk features.
The judging of this year's RIBA Awards shortlisted schemes will resume when site visits are able to safely take place.
