WWI Centenary Cathedral Repair Fund grants announced

30th November 2016

  • Buttress projects, Southwell Minster and Lincoln Cathedral, have been awarded funding in the final phase of grants from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund.

Southwell Minster has received a grant of £295,000 which will fund restoration work to the north choir aisle and north east transept roof and Lincoln Cathedral has been awarded £38,000 towards repairs to lead pinnacles.

The Buttress team worked closely with both cathedrals in preparing the grant applications and will oversee the delivery of the restoration and repair work.

Supported by the government, the funding is awarded to help safeguard the cathedrals, including keeping buildings weather-tight, wind-proof, safe and open to the public.

Decisions on funding allocations are taken by an expert panel which includes English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Church of England and the Catholic Church.
