A bespoke private dwelling in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire; the Moat House is a blend of contemporary styling with vernacular materials and offers an innovative approach to designing in a sensitive setting.
-
The project was conceived as several traditionally scaled buildings around a pool and terraced courtyard. The buildings therefore provide the accommodation required by a large family whilst remaining appropriate to setting; and the layout allows privacy whilst still engaging with the rural built context.
-
The buildings are constructed of dressed stone and white render walls and are topped with a slate roof. Windows are individually located across the building to frame views of the countryside beyond. Those in the first floor rendered façade are framed with stone and exaggerated to lend the impression of a deeply recessed window frame. The detail not only gives the façade depth but helps protect the render from rainwater staining.
