Reordering a Victorian church to increase flexibility in use
-
A reordering project to a Victorian church in south Lancashire, with an almost complete set of box pews, the main objective of which was to create full access and flexible open spaces for community use and meetings.
Our approach was to raise the floor level in the nave, making it flush with that of the chancel, taking advantage of the works to install a new underfloor heating system finished with an engineered oak floor.
To the rear of the re configured nave we installed a frameless glazed screen which sits under the timber gallery, enclosing the space for community use whilst maintaining the visual connection into the church.
