Home Louisa, a small development of 24 new two and three bed houses in Manchester, by Buttress Architects with developer First Step, has won the inaugural development of the year award from NW Insider.
The judges said this was one of the most competitive categories but said Home Louisa was “small but perfectly formed” and a worthy winner of the prestigious prize.
The site sits within an established neighbourhood of traditional terraced housing that had become a vacant plot. The designs sought to re-establish the neighbourhood grain by creating a new perimeter development, redefining the Louisa Street frontage and connecting the new and old with contemporary terraces.
The internal planning of the houses has been meticulously considered to maximise usable space creating a contemporary open living arrangement with excellent levels of natural daylight.
Traditional materials relate the scheme to the surrounding neighbourhood, whilst modern and recycled ones complete the contemporary architecture to create a striking street scene.
