Heritage Lottery Fund grant awarded to Harper Street regeneration

18th October 2018

The redeveloped terrace will provide community, heritage, workshop and retail space.

Project news
  • We are delighted to announce that the Heritage Lottery Fund has granted client, United Kingdom Historic Building Preservation Trust, £974,500 toward the regeneration and development of the Harper Street terrace opposite Middleport Pottery.

This currently derelict terrace is important to the context of Middleport Pottery, having formerly housed pottery workers and Middleport’s Lodge Keeper.

The project will restore the houses to their original condition and provide heritage interpretation about the domestic life of pottery workers, a community centre, workshop/retail spaces for applied artists, fit-for-purpose storage for the Middleport Pottery collection and publicly-accessible research and study areas for the archive and collection.

Due to commence in 2019, the project will also contribute significantly to growing Middleport Pottery and Burslem's reputation as a major visitor heritage destination.
