Haworth Gallery Artist Studios Officially Open

17th June 2016

  • Last Wednesday saw the official opening of the new Artist Studios at the Haworth Art Gallery, Accrington.

Buttress have led the refurbishment and adaptation of three previously disused Grade II Listed Buildings in to artist studios and event space, allowing the buildings to be used by the public for the first time.

Existing internal features of the Stable and Motor House Building, the Petrol Store and the Potting Shed have been restored and incorporated into the new designs, enabling visitors to engage with the buildings’ unique heritage. The complex itself is unique in that the combination of the stables and the motor house together is illustrative of the changing motor trade in the early 20th century.

The courtyard has been levelled and the cobbles re-laid so that it can hold public events such as craft fairs, music events and heritage days.

The studios have already proven popular; the first artists are due to move in to the studios in the coming weeks.

The project, for client Hyndburn Borough Council, was funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
