The sports pavilion at Monmouth School is in a beautiful location looking over the playing fields down the River Wye and responds with a simple yet dynamic design.
The pavilion has dual functions as a changing and social facility. It is designed with rugby and cricket team changing facilities on the ground floor and dining facilities above to cater for up to 100 people. The refreshment room opens out to a large covered balcony on two sides overlooking the pitches, and is intended for both spectators and external commercial use.
Special consideration in the design and detailing of the surface finishes has been given as it is within the flood plain. It has been designed to allow flood water in the building and can be thoroughly, but easily, cleaned afterwards.
The building is a simple yet dynamic shape with a double curved roof bringing a little drama to the classic pavilion, and very fitting in its context.
